Housing and Community Assistance
Newcastle Accommodation and Welfare Services
The Newcastle accommodation program is aimed at providing affordable low cost medium term housing to clients identified as homeless or at risk of homelessness. The program provides a supportive environment working with clients to identify and eliminate any barriers they may have to finding and maintaining long term accommodation.
The program manages currently 97 properties in various suburbs throughout the Lower Hunter, including Adamstown, East Maitland, Hamilton South, Maryland, Gateshead and Windale, and are in the process of receiving a further 21 units in Hamilton South.
The McKenzie Centre provides welfare support to those in need in Newcastle and the Hunter region. The program assists the community with supermarket vouchers, food parcels, prescriptions and EAPA vouchers for electricity and gas bills.
The McKenzie Centre provides a referral point to engage clients with Government Services and other welfare providers
The Wesley Newcastle City Mission Oasis Drop in Centre continues to be Newcastle’s only dedicated support area for homeless persons. The Oasis provides a safe area for homeless people to access food, showers, toilets and laundry facilities. Staff and volunteers at the Oasis work closely with other Wesley Services onsite including counselling, welfare, accommodation and youth services.
Wesley Newcastle City Mission is here to give help to those in need in Newcastle and the Hunter region.
We assist the community with:

We can make sure that the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless can speak with a lawyer at Mission Australia’s Hunter Homeless Law & Advocacy Service.
We can book those in need into our wide range of counselling services.
If we can’t help, we can get in touch with other organisations that can.
