Supporting local people who need it most

Wesley Mission Family Services Westlakes

A family group Our Family Worker based in the Westlakes area of Lake Macquarie provides free, non-judgemental support to meet the everyday challenges of being a parent of a child aged under eight.

Parenting Support Program

As part of our Families First initiative, we have developed a Parenting Support Program with Hunter Child & Family Services. We provide free, non-judgmental support to meet the everyday challenges of being a parent of a child aged 0 to eight.

We help parents nurture and manage their under-nine-year-olds, and can arrange referrals to other professional services, and sources of personal support and encouragement. Our program is backed up by informative discussion, DVD resources and literature.

We can arrange:

  • a home visit by an experienced Family Worker
  • caring advice and support
  • discussion about the challenges of parenting small children
  • introductions to other local parents and groups
  • friendly play programs for you and your child

Contact us if you are:

  • new to the area
  • on your own
  • feeling a bit overwhelmed
  • waiting for the birth of your baby
  • concerned about your baby’s development
  • unsure how to handle your child’s challenging behaviours
  • coping with a disability or illness as well as managing your family
  • needing to be put in contact with other services

The Parenting Support Program is located in Fennell Bay and available to families on the Western side of Lake Macquarie from Booragul to Morisset. The service is an initiative of Families NSW and is run by Hunter Child & Family Services Lake Macquarie through Newcastle City Mission.

Wesley Newcastle Youth Services

Our Newcastle Youth Service has been informing, educating and empowering the young people of Newcastle and the Lower Hunter since 1965. Funded by NSW Health and the NSW Dept of Community Services, we continue to provide a wide range of free, professional and holistic services for young people and their families in the region. Young people can meet up and socialise in our drop-in centre, overcoming feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Wesley's Youth Counselling offers assistance and support to young people and their families through the dedication of trained counsellors in services such as Lifeline, Wesley Hospital, Education, Homeless, Mentoring Gambling and Financial Counselling. We also assist by finding local youth support groups and networks.

Wesley Youth Services provides accommodation and support programs for young people (aged between 12 and 18 years) who are in crisis, homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Wesley Newcastle Youth Mentoring Services are here to help, befriend and advise youth at risk. We listen to young people, provide positive communication, guidance, counselling and positive role models.

Our premises are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. There you’ll find the offices of our three youth workers, our drop-in/training centre The Kage, fully equipped internet café facilities and a comprehensive resource library for workers, volunteers, young people and the wider community.
