Mission Markets
Wesley Newcastle City Mission Retail is responsible for the collection and distribution of clothing, furniture and household items, donated by residents of the lower Hunter.
People in need are assured of good quality clothing and other basic household items, at extremely reasonable prices, or at no charge if they are introduced through our welfare services.
The income generated by our shop and warehouse help fund other Wesley Newcastle City Mission programs and in particular support Newcastle’s accommodation and emergency relief services.
Our op shops offer a meeting point for the local community to share and participate in Wesley’s vast contribution to those in need in our local community.
Our truck collects clothing, furniture and kitchen items from a wide range of sources.
We are a self-funding service, largely run by volunteers. Our truck collects clothing, furniture and kitchen items from a wide range of sources and delivers them to our warehouse and shop.
Our goods are usually sourced from:
- referrals from other charities
- real-estate agents
- business partnerships
- deceased states
We have only one paid staff member. Volunteers help out at the shop, driving the truck and helping to load and unload the goods. We prefer not to pick up white goods and electrical goods, as they are often faulty.
Clothing, furniture and kitchen utensils are available for sale at our Wallsend shop, and are distributed by emergency relief. Donated furniture is also used furnish the Mission's singles accommodation.
Some of our donors are extremely generous and we have been the recipient of many fine antiques and collectibles. These items are realised at the maximum possible value, with the proceeds being used to support local initiatives.
