Prime receive major award from Wesley Mission
07 July 2006
Prime Television has won Wesley Mission’s 2006 Media Award.
The award was announced at Wesley Mission’s annual Spirit of Mission Community Awards Dinner held at the Sheraton on the Park, Sydney, last night.
The Media Award is presented to a media organisation that has gone above and beyond in their support of Wesley Mission over a number of years.
Recognition was given to Prime for their contribution to the work of Wesley Mission over the past four years. In particular, their support of Wesley Mission’s Christmas Appeal and the various programs and services offered by Wesley Newcastle City Mission.
Prime Television continues to support Wesley Newcastle through multiple
community service campaigns and event support.
This year’s Spirit of Mission focused on young people and the work Wesley Mission does in helping hundreds of vulnerable and disadvantaged youth each year.
The evening featured special guest speaker, NSW Police Commissioner Ken Moroney, who said that as important as police numbers and presence were in society, it was the ideals and inspiration from adults who work alongside youth that provide them with the hope and support they need.
“Listen to the voices of young people in our community because they have much promise. My optimism for the future is founded in these young people,” he said.
Wesley Mission’s superintendent, the Rev Keith Garner, spoke about the challenges society faces in regard to young people and how we can work together in partnering our youth in the future.
“A society that is tired of young people is tired of life,” he said. “A danger that lies before us tonight - and one that we must avoid - is that of seeing young people as a problem, rather than an opportunity and a delight,”
