You're never too old to learn
17 November 2006
Age should not be a barrier to learning and personal development and Wesley Newcastle intends to prove it. In February 2007 Wesley Newcastle will launch School for Seniors; an exciting program catering for leisure and learning opportunities for senior citizens.
School for Seniors was established by Wesley Mission in Sydney over 35 years ago. Today there are two (2) campuses (Sydney and the Central Coast) and more than 1,200 students enrolled in over 110 courses.
“School for Seniors provides a unique opportunity for people aged 50 years and over to meet and continue learning through informal education” said David Richards, School for Seniors Regional Coordinator.
Courses offered include international languages, arts and crafts, forms of dancing, computer and internet skills. Each course is led by a volunteer tutor.
Wesley Newcastle is inviting those people with a good knowledge or love of a special subject and a desire to share with others in a safe environment to register their interest in being a School for Senior Tutor.
“School for Seniors has been successful due to the enthusiasm and commitment of its tutors. This is an exciting opportunity for seniors to remain active in the community and pass on their knowledge to others.”
People interested in gaining more information about School for Seniors are invited to attend a morning tea at 11.00am on Thursday 23 November at Wesley Newcastle, 13 Denison Street, Newcastle West.
